Keeping a horse at Plummers farm stables
Posted on 22. Feb, 2010 by admin in Blog
At Plummers Farm Stables we like to think we have one of the friendliest atmospheres of any livery yard in the country. My family have always had horses on the farm and our children have needed no prompting before jumping on!
All comers are welcome and this makes for an exciting and diverse yard. At our bi-monthly meetings in the pub all topics are discussed and agreed. And with so much experience round the table we have come up with many innovative ways of improving yard management.
Whilst it is still a working sheep farm, I employ a team who help with keeping the yard tidy, taking away manure, managing the grazing fields, levelling the arena and being on hand to react to any problems that arise.
Above all we are a friendly yard allowing all to look after their horses as they wish. When new horses and owners are welcomed on the yard we go through the licence, the health and safety rules, the layout and running of the yard as well as introduce you to all the others liveries – two legged and four!
Turn out is all year round which allows horses to remain fit and healthy. After the introduction we then deicde how your horse is best managed either in small paddocks or larger gelding or mare paddocks.
Stables are all mucked out to a central point which is cleared regularly.
The farm ride allows you to go out riding with others on the yard at any time and on any day of the year.
The arena is floodlit and can be used at any time. It is levelled regularly and always kept clean and tidy for the next user.
Everyone is kept informed about worming times, blacksmith visits and such like.
The hope is that you feel your horse is safe and content at our yard even when you are not there.

Hiya Ben,
I recently e-mailed you about the cost of keeping a pony and you very kindly gave me some good tips , thank you for taking the time to help me. I wondered if it was possible to come and visit the stables next week? Any day after Tuesday would be brilliant.
I will look forward to hearing from you
