Straw is all under cover and harvest finished!

Having expected an early harvest, we started harvesting at the normal time on 27th July, quickly finishing the oil seed rape, and moving on to the spring Malting Barley harvest at the beginning of August. The grain is sold on contract and ends up making Stella & Coors, but the straw is baled for our liveries’ bedding.
Good weather hit us and stayed long enough for us to bring in the straw and get it under cover ready for the winter.
Most starw yields locally are down by 40%, much like this year’s hay and haylage yields, but as we produce our own we have a good stock.
We have since finshed our wheat harvest on 17th August with average yields – a great relief as more rain arrives.
Our newly acquired 6 stables are filling up ready for winter.
And we have just started our new season haylage – wow! Very pleased with the results and this bodes well for the 400 tonnes in store!
